About the Beef

How is your beef different from grass-fed beef at the grocery store?

A lot of grocery store beef is labeled “grass-fed,” but that label can cover a wide range of practices. In many cases, the beef comes from large supply chains, is raised in multiple locations, and can be finished on grain or confined toward the end, even if it started on grass.

Our beef comes from a much smaller, more transparent system. The cattle are 100% grass-fed and grass-finished, raised using regenerative grazing practices, and never given hormones or antibiotics. We either raise the cattle ourselves or work with one partner farm we know and trust, and the beef is processed in small batches—so we can tell you where it came from, how it was raised, and answer questions honestly.

The biggest difference most customers notice is consistency and trust: you’re not just buying a label, you’re buying beef from a real farm, with clear standards and a direct line to the people behind it.

Is your cattle 100% grass-fed AND grass-finished?

Yes. Our cattle eat grass and forage their entire lives—they are never fed grain at any stage. That includes the finishing phase, which is where some “grass-fed” beef you see elsewhere can differ.

The cattle are raised using regenerative grazing practices and are never given hormones or antibiotics. Whether the beef comes from our own herd or from our single partner farm, the standards are the same, and we’re happy to explain exactly how the cattle are raised if you have questions.

Do you ever use hormones, antibiotics, or added ingredients?

No. Our cattle are never given growth hormones, routine antibiotics, or any added ingredients. The only thing going into the beef is the beef itself.

If an animal ever requires medical treatment, it receives appropriate care — because animal welfare comes first. In those rare cases, that animal is removed from our beef program.

Whether the beef comes from our own herd or our partner farm, the same standards apply, and we’re always happy to talk through how we handle animal health and care.

Where is your beef raised and processed?

Our beef is raised in the central United States, primarily in northwest Kansas and through a single partner farm in Missouri that we know well and trust. All cattle are raised using the same grass-fed, grass-finished standards and are never given hormones or antibiotics. The beef is processed at a USDA-inspected facility and shipped frozen to maintain quality and food safety.

Do you work with any other farms?

Yes. In addition to raising cattle ourselves, we work with one partner farm in Missouri that shares our standards for grass-fed, grass-finished beef and responsible grazing. Working with a single, trusted partner allows us to offer consistent quality and availability while we continue building our own herd, and we’re always open about how and where your beef is raised.

Pricing & Value

Why does grass-fed beef cost more than conventional beef?

Grass-fed cattle grow more slowly and are raised on pasture for their entire lives, which takes more time, land, and hands-on management than conventional grain-fed systems. Small-batch processing, humane handling, and paying fair prices at every step also add to the cost.

That said, many customers find that buying grass-fed beef in boxes or bulk ends up being a better value over time—they’re getting clean, well-raised beef they trust, with no mystery about where it came from or how it was produced.

Is buying beef in boxes or bulk actually cheaper over time?

For most families, yes. Buying beef in boxes or bulk usually lowers the per-pound cost compared to purchasing individual cuts at the store, especially for grass-fed beef. It also helps reduce impulse grocery trips and price swings, since you already have a freezer stocked with a wide range of cuts.

That said, the biggest value for many customers is consistency—you know the quality, the source, and the price ahead of time, which makes meal planning and budgeting easier.

Why don’t you offer sales like the grocery store?

Grocery store sales are often tied to large-volume supply chains and short-term promotions. As a small, farm-based business, our pricing reflects the real costs of raising, processing, and shipping beef the right way, so we don’t run constant or steep discounts.

That said, we do offer occasional specials or limited-time offers when it makes sense. Our goal is steady, fair pricing most of the time, with the focus on long-term value rather than frequent sale cycles.

Ordering & Availability

How do I place an order?

You can place an order directly through our website at any time by selecting the box or bulk option that fits your needs and checking out online. If you’d rather talk it through or have questions before ordering, you’re also welcome to call or text me directly at 785-821-0949—I’m happy to help you decide what makes the most sense for your family.

Do I have to buy in bulk, or can I start small?

You don’t have to buy in bulk. We offer a Starter Box that’s intentionally put together for first-time buyers, with a mix of familiar, easy-to-use cuts so you can try the beef without committing to a large order.

Many customers start there to see how the beef fits their cooking style and freezer space, then move to a larger box or bulk purchase later if it makes sense for their family.

What cuts come in each box?

Each box has its own mix of cuts, and you’ll see the exact list on the product page for the box you choose. We build our boxes to use the whole animal—not just the “popular” cuts—because that’s the most respectful and sustainable way to raise beef, and it helps keep pricing steady.

If a box includes multiple packs of the same type of cut (like steaks), we usually pair a higher-value steak with a more budget-friendly steak. That way you still get a great “treat” cut, but you also get everyday options that make the box more useful for real meals—and it helps us keep the overall box price fair without cutting quality.

Can I customize my box?

At this time, our boxes are pre-curated and can’t be customized cut by cut. This helps us manage inventory, use the whole animal responsibly, and keep pricing straightforward.

If you have specific needs or are interested in a larger bulk purchase, feel free to reach out—we’re always happy to talk through options and let you know what might be possible.

What happens if something is out of stock?

Because we work in small batches and sell directly from the beef we have available, some boxes or cuts may sell out from time to time. When that happens, we pause orders for that item until more beef is ready rather than substituting without telling you.

If you’ve already placed an order and availability changes, we’ll contact you directly to talk through next steps—whether that’s waiting for the next batch, choosing a different option, or issuing a refund.

Processing & Timeline

What’s your processing timeline?

From the time cattle are harvested, processing typically takes about 3–4 weeks. This allows for proper aging, cutting, packaging, and freezing so the beef arrives in good condition.

Because we work in small batches, timelines can vary slightly, but we’ll always keep you updated if your order is part of an upcoming processing run.

Why does beef sometimes take longer to be available?

Beef isn’t something we can turn on and off quickly—cattle are raised on a natural timeline, and processing capacity is limited, especially at small USDA-inspected facilities. We also sell in small batches and don’t overproduce, which means availability depends on when cattle are ready and when processing is scheduled.

If something isn’t available right away, it’s usually because we’re between batches, and we’d rather wait and do it right than rush or compromise quality.

Is the beef fresh or frozen when it ships?

Our beef ships frozen. After processing, it’s vacuum sealed and frozen to lock in quality and freshness.

Shipping frozen also ensures the beef arrives safely and gives you flexibility—you can put it straight in your freezer and use it on your own schedule.

Shipping & Delivery

When do your boxes ship?

Our boxes ship on Mondays and Tuesdays only. Shipping early in the week helps ensure your beef arrives on time and stays frozen during transit.

The boxes are well insulated and packed with dry ice, so they’re designed to handle a short time on your porch if you’re not home when the delivery arrives.

Where do you ship?

We ship to the continental United States, excluding Alaska and Hawaii. Shipping within the lower 48 allows us to deliver your beef in a reasonable timeframe and keep it frozen during transit.

If you’re unsure whether shipping will work well for your location, feel free to reach out and ask.

Tell me more about your shipping.

We ship all orders via UPS, with a typical transit time of 1–2 days. Boxes ship on Mondays and Tuesdays only. Shipping early in the week helps ensure your beef arrives on time and stays frozen during transit.

Your beef is vacuum sealed, frozen, and packed in insulated boxes with dry ice, and the packaging is designed to protect the beef even if the box sits outside for a short time after delivery.

How is the beef packaged for shipping?

Your beef is packed in an insulated Styrofoam cooler inside a sturdy cardboard box. Inside the cooler, the beef is placed in the center and sandwiched by bubble wrap and dry ice to keep everything frozen during transit.

We also freeze our packing materials ahead of time so they don’t add heat when the beef is packed, helping maintain temperature from the moment it leaves us until it arrives at your door.

What happens if my box is delayed?

Once your order ships, you’ll receive tracking information. Our packaging is designed to keep the beef frozen longer than the normal transit window, even if there’s a short delay.

If your box arrives thawed or you’re not comfortable with its condition, reach out to us right away and we’ll make it right.

Storage & Cooking

How much freezer space do I need?

As a general rule, you'll need approximately 1 cubic foot of freezer space for every 15-20 pounds of packaged meat. A quarter beef requires about 6-7 cubic feet, a half beef needs 12-14 cubic feet, and a whole
beef requires 24-28 cubic feet of freezer space.

How long will my beef last in my freezer?

When kept frozen, vacuum-sealed beef will stay good for at least 12 months, and often longer. Vacuum sealing protects the beef from freezer burn and helps preserve quality over time.

Most customers find the beef tastes best when used within a year, but it’s safe to eat beyond that as long as it remains properly frozen.

How do I cook grass-fed beef differently?

Grass-finished and grain-finished meats should be cooked using the same methods. Grass-finished beef is leaner, which means it can reach doneness a little faster, so we recommend slightly lower heat and pulling it from the grill or pan a bit earlier.

If you’d like more detailed tips, we have a free cooking guide available here.

Do you provide cooking tips or recipes?

Yes. We share cooking tips and simple recipes through our blog and emails, with a focus on helping people feel confident cooking grass-fed beef at home.

We also offer a free downloadable cooking guide for customers who want a deeper reference, but there’s no requirement to sign up just to get helpful information.

Transparency & Trust

Can I visit your farm?

Absolutely! We love showing people around! However, we require scheduled
appointments (no drop-ins please - we've got four kids and need to plan
ahead). Email us to schedule a visit.

How do you raise your cattle?

Our cattle are raised on pasture using regenerative grazing practices, meaning they move regularly to fresh grass and are managed in a way that supports healthy soil and animals. They’re 100% grass-fed and grass-finished, with no hormones or antibiotics.

If you'd like more information on this, visit our "How Our Beef Is Raised" page.

What does "regenerative grazing" mean in practice?

In practice, regenerative grazing means managing cattle in a way that works with the land instead of against it. The cattle are moved regularly to fresh pasture, which helps prevent overgrazing, supports healthy soil, and allows grass to recover.

It’s a more hands-on approach that focuses on long-term land health, animal well-being, and producing beef in a way we feel good about.
